Primary investors of Civil Bank’s ordinary shares gained 70 per cent on the very first trading day at the stock exchange.
The share price of Civil Bank that had opened at Rs 160 reached Rs 170 by the time of closing. Investors who purchased shares during the bank’s initial public offering (IPO) at a face value of Rs 100 per unit have earned 70 per cent more on their investment.
The increased share price has also helped increase the trading of the bank’s shares at Nepal Stock Exchange. Civil Bank recorded the second largest turnover for the day. Its 223,490 unit shares worth Rs 37.6 million were traded in 558 transactions.
Market capitalisation of Civil Bank on the first day stood at Rs 3.42 billion.
The 30th commercial bank had offered eight million units of ordinary shares at a face value of Rs 100 for the public in December. Civil’s IPO was also subscribed by almost seven times and shares were allotted among more than 57,000 shareholders.
Although the day was good for Civil Bank, the market as a whole did not see much action. The index marginally declined by 0.89 points.
Today, 636,679 shares worth Rs 168.9 million of 86 companies were traded in 1962 transactions. Market capitalisation for the day stood at Rs 521.9 billion.
