Rupee strengthens, gold price down

Nepali rupee gained 59 paisa against US dollar this week as the Indian currency, with which rupee is pegged, strengthened against the greenback. Gold price, on the other hand, came down by Rs 85 per 10 grams over the week.

CURRENCY
The local currency strengthened by 59 paisa this week. Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB), the central monetary authority, had opened currency trading with exchange rate of dollar fixed at Rs 99.35 on Sunday.

Though the value of rupee remained unchanged on Monday, it gained 61 paisa on Tuesday to settle at 98.74. Rupee´s value remained unchanged on Wednesday as well. It, however, shed 3 paisa to settle at 98.77 on Thursday. The local currency, however, gained 1 paisa to close the week´s trading at 99.76 on Friday.

According to Reuters, rupee was traded at 61.43 on Friday after touching 61.32 earlier in the day, its highest since December 11.

Meanwhile, rupee gained 70 paisa against Euro and Rs 1.84 against Pound Sterling this week. A Euro was valued at Rs 134.39 on Friday while Pound Sterling was exchanged at Rs 161.32.

BULLION
Gold price went down by Rs 85 per 10 gram this week to close at Rs 45,355 on Friday.

Bullion trading opened on Sunday with gold price fixed at Rs 45,440 per 10 grams. On Monday, gold became dearer by Rs 340 per 10 grams to Rs 45,780. The yellow metal, however, lost its shine, losing Rs 170 per 10 grams to settle at Rs 45,610 on Tuesday.

Though gold price remained unchanged on Wednesday, it became cheaper by another Rs 255 per 10 grams to close at Rs 45,355 on Thursday. Gold price remained unchanged on Friday.

Price of silver, however, went up by Rs 8.5 per 10 grams over the week to close at Rs 733 per 10 grams on Friday.
