Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) gained 8.11 points on Thursday to close at five-year high of 822.67 points.
Nepse had reached 832.59 points on November 6, 2008, before being caught in adownward spiral. Narendra Raj Sijapati, president of Nepal Stockbrokers’ Association, said the positive political development helped the market grow on Thursday.
The insurance sub-index witnessed a three-digit growth of 110.32 points to close at 2,846.27 points. Similarly, hydropower and finance companies’ sub-indices also posted double-digit growth of 43.22 points and 11.8 points, respectively. Other gainers were development banks, commercial banks and others groups.
The total market turnover for the day stood Rs 358.48 million from the trading of 745,603 shares. The market capitalisation stood at Rs 838.02 billion.
