Rupee gains, gold price down (Feb 1-6)

Nepali rupee gained 20 paisa against the US dollar this week, as the Indian currency with which rupee is pegged, gained value against the greenback. On the other hand, gold price came down by Rs 340 per 10 grams this week in line with decline in gold price in the international market.

Currency
Rupee gained 20 paisa against US dollar to close at 99.08 on Friday. Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB), the central regulatory bank, had opened currency trading on Sunday with the value of dollar fixed at Rs 99.28.

Though the value of rupee remained unchanged n Monday, it gained 10 paisa against US dollar on Tuesday to settle at 99.18. Rupee railed against US dollar on Wednesday as well gaining 21 paisa to 98.97. Rupee, however lost 14 paisa on Thursday to close at 99.11. The local currency gained 3 paisa against the greenback on Friday to close the week´s trading at 99.08.

Meanwhile, rupee lost 52 paisa against euro and Rs 1.27 against British pound over the week. A euro was exchanged at Rs 113.32 on Friday, while the British pound was valued Rs 151.02.

Bullion
Gold price came down by Rs 340 per 10 grams this week. The market opened on Sunday with gold price fixed at Rs 46,380 per 10 grams. Prtice of gold came down by Rs 85 per 10 grams on Monday to 46,295. Gold continued losing shine as its price further came down by Rs 255 per 10 grams to close at 46,040. On Wednesday, the yellow metal became cheaper by Rs 170 per 10 grams to Rs 45,870. Gold price however increased by Rs 340 per 10 grams on Thursday to settle at 46,210. Price of the yellow metal came down by Rs 170 per 10 grams on Friday to close the week´s trading at 46,040.

Meanwhile, price of silver remained unchanged over the week. On Friday, silver was traded at Rs 617.5 per 10 grams.
