Duties and Accountabilities:
The Education Specialist/Economist will work under the supervision of the Education Practice Manager for the South Asia Region. S/he will support the daily management of the education portfolio. His/her main responsibility will be to support the education sector operations and knowledge tasks in Nepal, working jointly with other World Bank team members, clients, and development partners (DPs) that actively support the improvement of the country’s education sector performance. The main responsibilities include:
- Operations: The Education Specialist/Economist will be responsible for providing day to day operational support and interact with the government on operational and technical aspects of the projects.  S/he will carry out responsibilities for a variety of operational tasks and participate as a full member of a multi-sectoral team and undertake specific assignments of project preparation, appraisal and supervision in his/her field of expertise.  S/he will review and process operational documents, coordinating across disciplines and project components with other team members. S/he will also be supporting and/or engaging in policy dialogue on reforms.  
- Analytical Works: Provide inputs to and/or prepares diverse analytical and operational products (e.g. sector and country briefings, background reports, case studies, portfolio performance reviews, etc.).
- Partnerships: Contribute to partnership activities on a regular basis, with multilateral and bilateral development partners, non-profit organizations and civil society.
- Others: Carry out other duties and tasks as specified by the Practice Manager, and the relevant project Task Team Leaders or whomsoever they may designate. Responds to ad hoc information requests from internal and external parties.

In performing these roles, the selected candidate will interact with counterparts in government and in a variety of international and other partner organizations. In addition, he/she will collaborate with Bank colleagues and managers within the education sector, the Country Management Unit, as well as those in other GPs; these staff will be co-located in Kathmandu or in other Bank offices worldwide (especially Washington DC).  The selected candidate will be expected to travel regularly on official business to all parts of Nepal.
